Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
We understand that starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. To help you feel more informed and comfortable, we’ve answered some of the most common queries below. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch — We’re here to support you every step of the way.
What happens during the free 15-minute consultation call?
We can discuss your hopes for therapy and if there is a particular approach you are interested in or curious about. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you may have about therapy, how I work and for us to talk about any worries you may have about starting therapy. At the end of the call, if you wish to, you can book an exploratory session. This call is not a therapy session, and I am mindful that we do not enter any depth of sharing to ensure psychological safety and avoid eliciting overwhelming emotions.
What happens in the exploratory session?
We will explore your history, the nature of your problem and why you are seeking therapy. We can discuss what type of therapy you are interested in. After the exploratory session, there is no obligation to begin therapy with me. You can take some time to decide if we are a good fit for one another and if you would like to proceed with therapy.
How long is a session?
Sessions are 50 minutes long.
How long will therapy last?
I recommend working together for a minimum of six sessions, this is to ensure we have space to explore themes safely. I can provide both short and longer term therapy. We will have regular reviews throughout the process to see how you are finding therapy.
What happens if I can’t make a session?
For therapy to be effective it is important that sessions take place on a regular basis. If you cancel your session with more than 48 hours’ notice you will not be charged. If you cancel within 48 hours of your session, payment in full is due.
Are sessions confidential?
Sessions are confidential. It is important to me that you feel safe to explore what may come up in sessions in a judgement free space. There are times when I may need to share information if I believe you or someone else is at risk of harm, this will be further discussed at the beginning of therapy.
How is my privacy protected?
I am committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and personal information. I am General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliant, and I am also registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
How often are sessions?
Sessions are offered weekly online, or face to face in Beeston, Nottingham. Should you be unable to commit to weekly therapy, we can work together to find a schedule that suits your psychological or financial needs. I have a number of reduced cost sessions available for those in financial hardship and offer a discounted rate for trainee therapists.
